Three useful distinctions

Better decisions,
fewer expensive myths.

01

Lossless starts at the source

A DAC, cable or “hi-res” setting cannot reconstruct information removed by a lossy encode. Fix the earliest bottleneck first.

02

Bit-perfect is narrower

Bit-perfect means the digital samples reach the DAC unchanged. Useful EQ or safe volume control changes samples, but is not automatically bad sound.

03

Audibility is not guaranteed

Lossless removes one technical compromise. Your hearing, master, volume matching, headphones and room still matter more than a badge.
