Lossless starts at the source
A DAC, cable or “hi-res” setting cannot reconstruct information removed by a lossy encode. Fix the earliest bottleneck first.
Trace the signal from source to headphones. Find the first bottleneck, understand what “bit-perfect” really means, and get fixes in the right order.
Three useful distinctions
A DAC, cable or “hi-res” setting cannot reconstruct information removed by a lossy encode. Fix the earliest bottleneck first.
Bit-perfect means the digital samples reach the DAC unchanged. Useful EQ or safe volume control changes samples, but is not automatically bad sound.
Lossless removes one technical compromise. Your hearing, master, volume matching, headphones and room still matter more than a badge.
